Avenue Osteopath Sutton – Safe, Natural and Effective

Osteopathy is a safe and natural therapy that is suitable for people of all ages and levels of health and fitness.  Instead of drugs, osteopaths use their hands to help discover the underlying causes of discomfort and to carry out treatment by using a variety of hands-on techniques, such as massage, articulation and manipulation. Because osteopathy has a holistic approach to healthcare, the osteopathic treatment plan will include, not only treatment in the clinic, but advice on lifestyle changes such as dietary and posture advice, exercises and stretching regimes.  This whole approach will alleviate the current symptoms and prevent them from reoccurring in the future.

Osteopath Sutton, SurreyAt Avenue Osteopathic Practice, Sutton, we believe that our patients should have an understanding of their condition, therefore they are given information and explanations at all stages of their treatment.  Also advice will be given as to the amount of treatments that will usually be required to resolve the symptoms.  In most cases a course of between 3 and 6 treatments is all that is usually needed.

Michael graduated as a Bachelor of Osteopathy from the British School of Osteopathy (regarded as the most prestigious Osteopathic college in Europe).  He has previously had a practice in Hackney and worked at Barton House GPs practice in Stoke Newington, and the Sydney Street GPs practice in Chelsea. He started his own practice after building a purpose-built surgery next to his house in 2006. Michael also currently works with the GPs at Selsdon Park Medical Centre, Surrey.

Osteopathy is the treatment of choice for many people suffering with back and neck problems and is recommended  by NICE (National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence) for treatment of these areas.  However, osteopaths are trained in the treatment of all parts of the body, including hip, knee, shoulder and foot.  As well as treating the more obvious joint problems, sports injuries and postural strains, osteopathy can also improve headaches and general health.

Osteopathic treatment is aimed at improving the mechanics of the body as a whole.  This involves diagnosing the cause of the problem rather than concentrating solely on the symptomatic area.  For example, knee pain is often caused by a loss of height in the arch of the foot, and therefore treating the knee without addressing the underlying cause in the foot would only be a short term solution and the problem would reoccur.
